Theory Object of Preposition

In English grammar, the object of preposition is a noun, noun phrase, or pronoun that follows a preposition and completes its meaning. The object of preposition is in the objective case. A word group made up of preposition, its object, and any of the object's modifiers is called a prepositional phrase.

Preposition may be single words:

about                    behind                        in

above                    between                     of

among                   for                             on

before                    from                          through

Preposition also may be a group of words:

in spite of                             in front of

on account of                       because of

in back of                             instead of

ahead of                               by way of

A prepositional phrase is a group of words consisting of a preposition, it's object, and the modifiers of the object. Prepositional phrases modify words the same way that adjective or adverbs do.

Examples:

• The fabric on the machine must be stretched. (adjective - tells which one)
• After the rain, Demarcus demonstrated skateboarding technique. (adverb-tells when)

When a pronoun is the object of a preposition use the objective case of the pronoun.

Examples:

• Ralph bought the flower for her. (For is the preposition, and the objective case of the pronoun her is the object of a preposition).
• With whom do you wish to speak? (With is the preposition, and the objective case of the pronoun whom is the object of a preposition).

Pada kalimat di atas, kata taking bersal dari kata take memiliki pasangan untuk membentuk semacam kelompok kata namun memiliki satu arti. Kelompok kata tersebut merupakan susunan baku - yaitu take into, taking into yang berarti mempertimbangkan.
